Available Sizes:
Light deprivation plastic, also known as panda film, is a 5-layer co-extruded black and white greenhouse film used when growers need strong blackout control. The black side helps block incoming light, while the white side reflects light and helps reduce heat buildup inside the structure.
This 6 mil film is used for greenhouses, hoop houses, blackout systems, and grow facilities where light control matters. Order standard roll sizes or choose a custom cut length for your structure.
Also known as panda film
Many growers search for this material as panda film, black and white poly film, blackout greenhouse plastic, light dep plastic, or greenhouse blackout film. These terms generally refer to reversible black/white film used to manage light exposure inside a greenhouse or grow structure.
Blackout film for controlled light cycles
This black and white film is used by growers who need to manage light exposure inside greenhouses, hoop houses, and blackout structures. It is designed for light-deprivation applications where reducing outside light is important.
Reversible black and white panda film
Panda film uses a dual-sided black and white design:
- The black side helps block outside light.
- The white side reflects light and helps reduce heat buildup inside the structure.
Durable 6 mil greenhouse film
This 6 mil light deprivation film is built for greenhouse and grow-structure use. It provides a durable plastic cover option for blackout systems, sidewalls, hoop houses, and temporary light-control applications.
UV-Resistant for Long-Term Outdoor Use
The film is made for outdoor exposure and greenhouse applications. UV resistance helps the material hold up better under sunlight compared with non-greenhouse plastic covers.
Custom cut for greenhouses, hoop houses, and blackout systems
Choose a standard roll size or request a custom cut length for your structure. Larger rolls may ship by parcel or LTL freight depending on size, weight, and destination.
Reflective white side to keep heat down
Facing outward, the white side reflects sunlight away from the structure, which helps limit heat buildup. This is useful for growers using blackout covers, sidewalls, or controlled-light environments.
Common uses
- Light deprivation greenhouses
- Blackout hoop houses
- Panda film grow rooms
- Greenhouse blackout sidewalls
- Temporary blackout covers
- Reflective interior greenhouse lining
Light Deprivation Plastic FAQ
Is this the same as panda film?
Yes. Panda film is a common name for black and white plastic film used for light deprivation, blackout control, and reflective greenhouse applications.
Which side faces the growing area?
Install the white side facing outward to reflect sunlight and reduce heat buildup, with the black side facing the growing area to block light. Installation may vary depending on the structure and blackout setup.
Can this be cut to length?
Yes. Select a standard roll size or order a custom cut length for your greenhouse, hoop house, or blackout structure.
Is this for garden beds or weed control?
No. This product is intended for light deprivation and blackout applications. For ground cover or weed suppression, use weed mat or ground-cover products instead.
Will this ship by parcel or LTL?
Shipping depends on roll size, weight, and destination. Larger rolls may require LTL freight. Freight is calculated before checkout.

Use and Limitations
Exposure to chemicals
Exposure of greenhouse films to severe chemical conditions has an adverse effect on the lifetime of the film. Avoid excessive use of agrochemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and fertilizers. Take measures to prevent direct contact of chemicals to the film. Ensure that metal structures are galvanized and are free from corrosion. When wooden structure parts are used, avoid contact of the film with resin, oil, petroleum or volatile preservatives. Prevent contact of the film with PVC accessories. Chemicals containing halogens, sulfur, copper, iron, are known to accelerate the degradation of greenhouse films.
Specifically, if the following elements are found at levels higher than specified, the films are excluded from this warranty:
| Element | Maximum level |
|---|---|
| Sulfur | 500 ppm |
| Chlorine | 50 ppm |
| Iron | 50 ppm |
Overheating
Overheating of the film has an adverse effect on its lifetime. Hot air should be directed away from the film.
Disinfection chemical use
When chemicals are used to disinfect the soil, the treated soil must be covered with a film for a minimum of three weeks. After the film is removed, the greenhouse should be ventilated.
